EXTERNAL IN-LINE PUMPS External pumps have become quite popular with the koi hobbyist. External pumps provide higher efficiency operation and typically last longer than direct drive submersible pumps. Drawbacks include hiding the pump when used in a landscape setting and higher noise levels. Also, weather can damage an unprotected pump. Recommended for fish harvesting, breeding and filtration systems. Otherwise be sure to use with proper protection from the elements.
